4 Compelling Reasons Why Every Author Should Use Public Speaking

Contributed by Peter “The Reinvention Expert” Fogel

According to Accenture, people are bombarded with over 3000 marketing messages day from television, radio, print, and internet.

So how does an author cut through the clutter and produce more book sales to audience? By Public Speaking. Below are four reasons for every author to use public speaking

1. It Makes You “The Expert”

The quickest way to make yourself the “expert” (besides writing a book) is to get in front of a room full of eager, targeted readers who want your knowledge and expertise.

Audiences think, “WOW! If this author was asked to speak, then she he MUST really know what she is doing!” Remember, expert status means higher speaking fees and consulting work and more fans of your work.

2. Public Speaking Gives You One-on-One Contact with Potential Clients

No more getting a potential client’s voice mail. No more hoping they got your letter. No more playing phone tag. Public speaking gives you the opportunity to talk to your clients face to face.

You have their undivided attention, so you can deliver strong content, solve their problems. Not to mention hitting their hot buttons and have them clamoring for your services.

3. Public Speaking Gets You Out of Your Comfort Zone … And Into a Sizeable Profit Zone

If you are someone who spends a lot of time in front of a computer, or in the office, then public speaking allow you a great excuse to get out of the house. It also allows you to interact with an entire universe of new prospects who will reveal to you their wants and needs.

Make no mistake: Nothing beats the excitement of delivering a mesmerizing presentation and having eager clients approach you with your book for autographs (all while giving you their business cards for future consulting work.)

4. Public Speaking is Most Cost Effective Ways to Build Your Client of Fanbase!

I spoke at a seminar that had about 80 attendees.. At the end of the seminar I had “a call to action” and had all attendees give me their e-mail address.

The cost to get their contact information? Zero dollars. The ability to follow up with them whenever I want to and give them more knowledge? PRICELESS!

Remember: As an author you want to get more admirer’s of your work.

When you have the ability to touch your audience with the written word as well as with your speaking… you are cementing your brand into their consciousness and gaining more notoriety. And best of all? Public speaking is gratifying and a whole lot of fun!

  1. My first novel is going out on submission soon. I’m looking forward to speaking to readers directly, that is, if my book is published. I know there are no guarantees. Before turning to writing full-time I was a teacher. I really like talking to groups of people. You’re post reminded me that I’ll have that to look forward to.
