Do Not Let Being An Author Stress You Out

Many successful authors deal with stress and anxiety throughout their career. As a result, here is a list of techniques that an author can use to manage their anxieties and uncertainties.

The first step is to determine what your goals are as an author.  Many authors have different goals and as a result each goal can lead to different opportunities.  Here are some questions an author should think about…

How many books do I want to write?

 Do I want to be on National TV?

 Do I need a publicist?

What is my book marketing budget?

What are my short and long term goals?

The next step is to develop a plan on how to accomplish each task. Get a piece a paper and write down the steps that you need to accomplish in order to accomplish your goals. This will save you a lot of time in the long run and reduce your stress and anxiety. Once you write down the steps, follow each step one at a time. This will help you stay organized and focused.

Prepare for unexpected surprises. Sometimes, things happened that might take an author by surprise. Be flexible and when expected things happen learn to deal with them immediately.

In dealing with your anxieties as an author, learn to take it one day at a time. While the consequences of a particular fear may seem real, there are usually other factors that cannot be anticipated and can affect the results of any situation. Get all of the facts of the situation and use them to your advantage. The more control you have over your stresses and anxieties, the better off you will be in the long run.

Do what you can today. Do not put things off when you can do them today. You never know when something may come up and being efficient on a daily basis can prevent future problems down the road.

Finally, have fun. Enjoy the fact that you are a successful writer. Being an author can be very challenging however the rewards are endless. Don’t take everything so seriously and just be glad that people are interested in what you have to say. Being an author is just like having your own business. It is a lot of work but you will reap the benefits in the long run.
